A French violinist and conductor, Frédéric Moreau has built an international career spanning several thousand concerts. His work brings together solo performance, orchestral direction, chamber music and teaching.

Captivating audiences with his performances, charisma and remarkable virtuosity, Frédéric Moreau is invited to numerous festivals and prestigious stages around the world. He quickly became one of the most prolific French artists of his generation, with more than a hundred solo concerts each year, and has appeared as a soloist with orchestras including the Munich Symphony Orchestra, the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, the National Philharmonic of Kyiv and the Orchestre Philharmonique d’Île-de-France.

A prizewinner of international competitions, he began his solo career at eighteen, after receiving unanimous first prizes in violin and chamber music and graduating from the most selective soloist programme of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris (master’s and doctorate). He studied with masters such as Jean Fournier, Michèle Auclair, Régis Pasquier, Tibor Varga and Yehudi Menuhin, and also trained in composition, conducting and musicology. His international appearances include the George Enescu International Festival (Romania), the Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival (Finland) and the DMZ International Music Festival (South Korea).

From the Baroque to contemporary music, he is also a fervent advocate of the most charismatic of virtuosos, Niccolò Paganini, to whom he devoted the album Il Cannone, in homage to the Italian master’s legendary violin. As musical director and soloist of the string orchestra Les Violons de France, he has shaped a repertoire in which virtuosity holds a central place. He is equally devoted to chamber music: with the Duo Kallisté, as first violin of the Gaïa Quartet in Seoul, and alongside partners such as Nicholas Angelich, Maxim Fedotov, Ilya Rashkovskiy, Eunju Park and Patrick Zygmanowski.

A renowned teacher, he taught at Yonsei University in Seoul and gives masterclasses around the world. He plays a 1749 violin by Giovanni Battista Guadagnini.

Korean synaesthetic painter Eunju Park gives colour and form to her experience of music. Her paintings, including works on Hanji, traditional Korean paper, open a dialogue between listening and looking.

To excel in two disciplines that are at once passions and needs of our humanity is a rare blessing. Eunju Park achieves exactly that, weaving together her career as a musician and as a painter.

Born in the heart of Seoul, she has lived and studied in South Korea, Canada and France. She stood out on the cello from an early age; after the prestigious Yewon School and Seoul Arts High School, she trained for some ten years in Paris with masters such as Mstislav Rostropovich, Xavier Gagnepain, Philippe Muller, Florian Lauridon and the Ysaÿe Quartet.

Winner of first prize at the Turin International Competition and first prize for chamber music in Paris, she joined the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra in 2005 and founded the Gaïa Quartet. She performs as a soloist and chamber musician alongside Myung-whun Chung, Emmanuel Pahud, Jonathan Fournel, the Ysaÿe Quartet, Patrick Zygmanowski, Frédéric Moreau and Les Violons de France.

Yet her singularity lies in a rare gift: a synaesthete, polyglot and ambidextrous, she sees music in colour and grasps its syntax. Her painting does not represent sound; it makes it visible.

“Music, that sublime abstraction, becomes visible and tangible under my brush. Capturing the emotion of sound through colour is my language, where words fall short.”

Eunju Park · Artist’s note

A pianist of Polish origin trained in the French piano tradition, Patrick Zygmanowski brings together solo performance, chamber music, composition and teaching. His career has taken him across Europe, the Americas and Asia.

He gave his first recital at the age of ten, a performance that foreshadowed the breadth of his talent. He has since appeared on the world’s great stages, from the concert halls of Europe and the United States to the most iconic venues of Asia and Latin America.

Heir to the great tradition of the French piano school, he graduated from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, where he won several first prizes, notably in piano and chamber music, and distinguished himself in the highly selective 3e cycle that trains the finest French soloists. A German government scholarship then allowed him to refine his art at the Hochschule für Musik in Munich.

He collaborates with internationally renowned artists, among them Frédéric Moreau, Gérard Caussé, Renaud Capuçon, Romain Guyot, Jean-Louis Capezzali and Naoto Otomo. Patrick Zygmanowski embodies the alliance of technical rigour and pure emotion.

A composer and arranger, he works with prestigious institutions such as the Comédie-Française, and his creations earned him the Prix Delmas of the Académie des Beaux-Arts. He teaches at the École Normale de Musique de Paris and at the Conservatoire à rayonnement régional of Aix-en-Provence, and is a permanent guest professor at the Osaka College of Music. From 2010 to 2012, he was artistic director of the Villa Kujoyama in Kyoto, playing a key role in cultural exchange between France and Japan.

“A dazzling virtuosity, combined with musical intelligence and subtle humour.”

Répertoire

The Duo Kallisté brings together violinist Frédéric Moreau and pianist Patrick Zygmanowski. Their partnership is built on years of shared music-making and a common grounding in the French conservatoire tradition.

Formed by violinist Frédéric Moreau and pianist Patrick Zygmanowski, the Duo Kallisté embodies one of the finest expressions of contemporary French chamber music. Brought together by a rare artistic bond, the two musicians share the same exacting standards, a common sensibility and a path forged at the highest level of the European tradition.

Remarkably, both received the same training at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, where they earned a master’s and a doctorate at the end of the institution’s most selective soloist programme. This shared lineage nourishes a deeply coherent reading of the great works of the repertoire.

Between piano and violin, the dialogue reaches a rare intensity: clarity of line, shared breath, a constant search for musical truth.

Duo Kallisté

Violin and piano meet as equal partners. Shared phrasing, close listening and the freedom of live performance shape an intimate approach to chamber music.

Their recording devoted to Mozart, Beethoven and Brahms traces a path from Classical balance to Romantic expression. Their projects also open a dialogue with the visual arts, including the paintings of Eunju Park.

Founded in 1995 by violinist Frédéric Moreau, Les Violons de France brings together musicians around a shared passion for performance. Its identity combines the intimacy of a string ensemble with the presence and virtuosity of its soloists.

Its success from the very first concerts springs as much from the exceptional quality of its performances as from a genuine bond between its musicians, brought together for their artistic and human qualities and for their passion for sharing music with the widest possible audience.

Its musicians regularly perform as soloists with the orchestra and hold the highest distinctions in their fields. The ensemble performs the masterpieces of the repertoire and adapts many scores to the virtuosity of its soloists. For the symphonic repertoire, winds and percussion join the strings to form the Orchestre Philharmonique d’Île-de-France.

Some hundred concerts each year in the most prestigious Parisian venues, along with many tours in France and abroad. Internationally, the orchestra has been invited by the Celebrity Concert Series and the Gardner Concert Hall in Salt Lake City (USA), the Seoul Arts Center (South Korea) and the Balletto di Milano (Italy), as well as by many festivals.

Frédéric Moreau’s diabolically virtuosic violin, in the manner of a Paganini, unfolds on stage a kind of extraordinary firework: music that makes people happy.
