Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know before certifying your first file.
Do you store my files?
No. The fingerprint is computed in your browser. Your file is never sent to us, so we can neither read it, nor lose it, nor disclose it.
Is this legal proof?
It is technical proof of existence, solid and independently verifiable, that can serve as an element in a case. It is not a notarized deed, and we say so clearly.
Does it prove that I am the author?
The certification proves that a fingerprint existed at a given date. For attribution, you can affix your seal: a personal mark, which only you can reproduce, that links your files together. It does not prove your legal identity, but a continuity of origin that you claim publicly.
What is the seal?
A personal mark, optional, affixed at the moment of certification. Recognizable (a motif and a code) and impossible to counterfeit, it is the third anchor: after "the same file" and "on this date", it answers "by this entity". Reserved for unlimited plans. Discover the seal.
Does the seal prove my identity?
No. It uses no personal data and does not reveal your legal identity. It proves that one and the same mark recurs across a series of documents. "It's you" is built by publicly claiming your motif and, on demand, by meeting a signature challenge an impostor could not meet.
What happens if I lose my seal phrase?
There is no recovery: no one, not even us, can retrieve it. Your already-affixed seals remain verifiable; you simply won't be able to affix new ones under the same motif. Note your phrase carefully.
Can someone copy my seal?
One can copy the image of a motif, but not truly reproduce it: the signature challenge unmasks the impostor. Above all, showing your motif and its code reveals nothing of your secret phrase, no one can guess it from this public information.
What happens if you shut down?
Your proof remains valid. It relies on open standards and on the blockchain, not on our survival. You can verify it without us.
Do I need to handle any cryptocurrency?
No. You have no wallet to create, no crypto to buy. The blockchain serves as timestamping infrastructure, not as money. You drop a file, you pay in your usual currency, you receive your certificate. The blockchain.
Can my competitors see my file or its content?
No. The verification page reveals only the fingerprint and the date, never the content. Your secret stays secret.
How do I verify my proof?
Via the QR code on your certificate, or with open tools. As long as you keep your file and your .ots proof file, verification remains possible, even without us.
Does the proof depend on the exact file?
Certification covers the content, not a specific copy. A perfectly identical copy stays verifiable, and any modification, however small, is immediately detectable. This is the guarantee that the verified document is 100% identical to the one that was certified.
How long does it take?
The proof is created in minutes. Full confirmation on the blockchain strengthens over the following hours.
How does payment work?
Payment is processed securely by Paddle.com, which acts as Merchant of Record and issues your invoice. We never receive your card number.
Can I get a refund?
Yes, within 14 days as long as the certificate has not yet been issued. Once the proof is generated, the service is fulfilled. See our refund policy.
What about the right to be forgotten on the blockchain?
Anchoring records only an anonymous, non-reversible and non-identifying fingerprint. Since we hold neither an account nor a file from you, there is no personal data to erase: the fingerprint itself does not identify you.
